Icon overload

We’ve been to 3 monasteries/convents and boy oh boy, that’s a  lot of gold, gold-leaf, gilded stuff, and painted wood. Whoosh.

Here’s a sample:

Jesus loves you more when your church is filled with gold!

I find it awe-inspiring, yet completely overwhelming. Note to tourists to Russia: Monasteries and cathedrals in small doses. Icon overload may cause dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, immaculate conception, stigmata, tremors, hallucinations/visions, and glowing circles behind your head. See a doctor or a Metropolitan if symptoms do not dissipate within 2 days or the next mass, whichever comes first.
